Putting aside matters of dress, the blade profile is rather reminiscent of the rencong. Not congruent, but seemingly related.

The fretwork is reminiscent of the rondha found in keris and other Indonesian weapons, the acid etching is common in various blades produced in East Jawa & along the North Coast of Jawa, the carved hilt could be from any number of places, including East Jawa, the form of the hilt pommel is a similar style to base of Javanese display shafts.
I have never seen anything that is overall the same as this knife, but it does have a number of characteristics that remind me very strongly of the items that were marketed through Pasar Turi in Surabaya in years past. |
