Malay archipelago is as close as I can locate; other more knowledgeable will refine. Nice carving on the bone hilt. The decoration on the blade is not something I've seen, but reminiscent of the acid-etching of the Mahdi-era Sudan knives with the pseudo-Arabic script. I'm not at all sure that that was the technique used in this example, though. That's all I've got. Some of it may even be accurate. |

Thai? aspalathos, It looks like a fancy Thai e-nep to me. Sincerely, RobT |

Looks like a monk Thai Mit/Meed Mor knife, Southern Thai, North Malay or even Southern Cambodia. Somewhat unusual knife since there isn't a prayer pictured. My best guess! ;) |

The blade decorations were acid etched. |

Putting aside matters of dress, the blade profile is rather reminiscent of the rencong. Not congruent, but seemingly related. |

The fretwork is reminiscent of the rondha found in keris and other Indonesian weapons, the acid etching is common in various blades produced in East Jawa & along the North Coast of Jawa, the carved hilt could be from any number of places, including East Jawa, the form of the hilt pommel is a similar style to base of Javanese display shafts. I have never seen anything that is overall the same as this knife, but it does have a number of characteristics that remind me very strongly of the items that were marketed through Pasar Turi in Surabaya in years past. |
