Bone? Better place a close up of the hilt. Could be ivory. Nice catch.

Hello Jimmy and nice catch indeed!! Older style hilt possible ivory, I too would like to see close-ups of the hilt. As soon as Jose see this he will be able to give you an idea of where it was made and a time frame as well. If I had to guess (and that is exactly what it would be) I would say first quarter of twentieth century and possibly earlier. My congratulations on a great addition to your collection.

Best,
Robert

Nice catch Jimmy! I love the hilt's subtle curvature and the nice patination.
From this distance it does look like bone, but who cares??...it's a beaut!

Agree with Charles, equal if it is bone or ivory, it's a beauty. Age I think turn of the Centurys.

Detlef

Hello Jimmy,

I do like this punal/gunong! Looks like bone to me, too.
(More pics of this piece posted here .)

A close-up of the bolster area would be great. How do the details compare with this kris ?
(I don't want to suggest a close relationship but there seem to be some similarities.)

Regards,
Kai

Have Internet service at this moment. Can look at better once I get back into the USA but for now looks 1910s or earlier, and possibly Magundanao.
