That is a beautiful shamshir, the test on the hilt is Arabic, and worn off making it harder to read. Maybe DOM can do his magic.

Amazing :-)) congratulations Charles!

I cannot read it, sorry.. Did manage to make sense of some words but its very fragmented and I cannot be sure that what I read is correct.

Is the blade Kirk nurduban?? how long is the blade alone?

Many thanks for your kind comments, though I never intended to post pics of the entire sword.

The wootz blade is, indeed, the ladder pattern, kirk nurduban, and the pattern is very clear on both sides.

The blade is rather large at 35 inches across the curvature.

I am still hoping for some input on the hilt strap.
