Default Parang, early 20c?

just picked up this item 260234178338 from ebay, liked the shape, billed as an early 20c malay parang. it was a hard fight, and i had to fight off an unusual number of bidders, but throwing money at it worked as usual. provenance unknown, but from other photos the blade may be laminated. will know when it arrives. 11" blade 4" grip, 15" LOA.

will post better pics when it arrives.

Oh yeah, that was a tough fight all right.
But you may have paid too much for it...
I see what you mean that it might be laminated. One of the other pics seems to show some interesting lines. If so i'd say you got a great deal. If not i'd say you got a good deal.
Either way, i don't think i would call this a parang.

well, it arrived today, so here's some better pics. i've given it a light buff with a brillo pad & some mineral oil.

scabbard is a tight fit, looks like a previous owner has reglued it & bound it with upholstery thread in three places, may need to scrape a bit of glue off the inside. nice figuring on the grip wood & scabbard mouth. not sure if the figuring that appears in the blade is wishful thinking, or just they way it's been polished.
probably the latter.

(just in case anyone is curious, the sundial in my photos is correctly aligned and the gnomon is the correct angle, the 'in hand pic was taken at 15:20, the dial shows 3:16pm. which is correct as the equation of time is 4 min. different for my location)
