A RARE Sword From Timor For Sale
Up for sale is this very rare sword of fine quality from Timor in the Indonesian archipelago. The piece is almost certainly 19th Century. It measures 33.5 inches overall, with a blade, probably of European construction, of 23 inches. The hilt is carved buffalo horn with holes that once contained hair tufts, but those are long since gone, though the plugs remain. The scabbard is hardwood with carved horn chape and mouth bound with metal bands. The bottom band appears to have been glued back at at one time as the scabbard has shrunk just slightly, and the bands were probably loose. This would be an easy restoration to make more attractive. NOTE: What appears to be a crack in the hilt in one of the pics is not a crack at all, but lighting due to the curvature of the hilt. There are no cracks to the hilt.
The sword is in very good condition overall, with dark age patina to the blade, and no pitting, and a nice glossy patina to the hilt and scabbard. There is an old collection tag number to the top band. Price: $695.00 plus shipping If interested please email me by using the member name link 'CharlesS' to the left. A private message will get a slower response than an email.
