Comments about a shamshir

Hi all,
I have many questions about this shamshir :
1. The translation of the writings in the cartouche
2. The meaning of the figures on the hilt
2. Its age
3. The blade is completly covered by a dark patina. Probably under there is a good wootz. How might I remove only the patina without ruin the damascus ?

I'm guessing Persian and 19th century Qajar period.

Hi Paolo,

Nice shamshir, Persian I would say, although I don't know much about Persian swords, but there are others on the forum who can help.

It is always a risk to remove the patina. If you don't find wootz, would you be sorry, or would you be as glad for the shamshir anyway?

Is it me ...but the figure looks like a European in Renaissance period dress..

Yes, nice shamshir. Handle is definately Persian, Qajar Revival period. The blade however, appears much older, and may be 18th century.

Katana, also I noted on many Persian hilts (above all on ivory kanjars of Qajar period) that the figures are showed with dresses that seems these of the European Renaissance. I wondered at it.
