Default Dagger from Philippines

This item just finished in the Ebay and I think is interesting, seems Philippino to me, the description of the seller was ;
This is a beautiful antique dagger, fresh from an old estate collection.
The handle has engraved plates, which look like silver, but asre not marked.
The blade is hand made, and engraved.
The leather sheath is decorated, and complete.
ITEM MEASUREMENTS
This item measures about 16 1/4" long by 4" wide.

Blade measures 10 1/8" long and 1 3/8" wide.
Please tell me something about this piece.

Best regards
carlos

Default Possibly Katipunan

Here is a picture of a dagger in my collection, similar in shape and size and with the diamond blade cross section. My dagger is reportedly from the Batangas region of the Philippines, dating from the revolutionary period 1898-1902. While rank and file members of the revolutionary organization called Katipunan carried a bolo tabak (a type of machete), higher ranking officers carried daggers made in the european style. This dagger is 14 inches overall, blade 9 ½ inches. The guard and end cap are brass and the hilt, made of turned damaging or carabao horn, is inlaid with twisted brass wire.

Hello Carlos,

very nice dagger, have watched this one also. Wait what the experts have to say, could be also from Mexico since the spanish influence but my guess is as well Philippines, I think I see catmoon flowers on the scabbard.

Regards,

Detlef

Hello Carlos, You haven't mentioned if you won this or not. I will jump in with trying to date it and say 1890 to 1930. Its the belt loop on the sheath that makes me wonder about dating it as most earlier ones were still using a frog for suspension. It could also be that the original owner had it especially made like this. I would like to see better photos of the engraving on the silver inserts in the hilt before making a comment on where it could be from. Like everyone else I was also watching this with great interest. Congratulation to you if you did win this beautiful dagger and my condolences if you did not.

Regards,
Robert

Hello Carlos,
That is one beautiful dagger that you have acquired. Could you possibly post a couple of photos that show the plates attached to the hilt a little better? Thanks.
