Is this a naga?
Would you describe this hilt ?ornament as a naga head or does it look like something else anyone has seen? One eye appears to fallen out over time.
Thanks as always for considering my rather dumb questions. DrD |

Drdavid:
Did this hilt come on the end of a Thai sword? If so, it is of very recent manufacture. Ian. |

The rest of the sword looks like this, allegedly from Burma but it does not look like a Dha to me.

Yep. That's modern Thai stuff. You can find a bunch of these on eBay.

I agree Ian. Another note is that the naga head looks like a lesser quality lead based white metal with a glass eye.

As others have noted, these have become ubiquitous on eBay. Modern Thai stuff for "those who travel for pleasure."
I wouldn't classify the pommel as a naga. More like a generic dragon. Drdavid, don't feel bad: many of us have picked up one of these (or similar) at one point. |
