Also a gamble..
It looks like it,s a gamble week
I also did take a gamble on marktplaats here, i recieved it today . the wranka is nothing, to damaged. but the blade and the hilt are a good gamble. the blade is now in a bath for de-rusting. i.m not sure if the blade is a madurese or east javanes. pamor is ujung gunung and on the other side maube a batu lapak but i have to clean it first . danny |

Certainly a gamble that paid off. How bad is the sheath? The pictures don't show...

Looks like the blade has an ujung gunung pamor at the base. Quite unusual for a non-Bugis/Malay blade, I thought. The whole ensemble looks matching.

Hi Guy,s,
Yes i stained it quite quick, the solustion is strong so it don,t take a lot of time. the rust was also easy to remove. There is Ujung Gunung on both side,s , but it won,t come out verry clear , i don,t know why? it,s a pitty. Here some photo,s of the sheat . |

Hi Danny,
like I write you yesterday by e-mail: When the blade fit good inside the sheath I would suggest to restore it, it's a nice timoho sheath and the wood is expensive. It depend from the material how strong the contrast come out by warangan. Best regards, Detlef |

The restore job was done from a friend of me who has done already some very nice and good jobs for me.
The missing wood was filled with other wood and at some parts with a little bit wood filler and painted black at some areas so it is matching with the timoho. The wrongko was taken off since it was glued wrong to the gandar and the wilah don't fit good inside before. After all work was done the sheath get some layers of shellac. Here some additional pictures. BTW, the keris look now very good with the handle again Danny! Regards, Detlef |

Hi Detlef,
Thanks for placing the restore photo,s Yes I think the handle completes this keris , but i.m still not happy with the mendak. So when i find a proper one i will replace it. regards, danny |

Danny, based upon what I can see in the photos, this mendak is absolutely correct and cannot be improved on.
It is possible that it may have been squashed a bit, but even if it has been, this doesn't matter --- its an old keris, slight imperfections only add to its character. |

I completely agree with Alan. And the restoration of the scabbard just improved the keris to what it should be.
