Default Multi Fullered Katar For Comment

Just picked this up at the mall today. Just love those fullers and could not resist.

I was watching this. To be honest, I was somewhat surprised it sold for as much as it did... What makes this particular katar - or its fullering - worth having?

Thumbs up

Quality of workmanship (including fullering), condition, size, and presence of an original scabbard set this one pretty far apart from the run of the mill, IMO.

Exactly my thoughts also. Many of the katars you see for sale on ebay these days are in really bad shape. Even if you spot a nice one they tend to go for big $$. I was surprised it did not go for more money in the end. I am fairly sure it will end up to be a wootz blade.

I definitely was impressed with the presence of the original scabbard. And I hear you regarding condition. However, I was out of the running the minute (second, even?) it passed the $200 mark...

I was watching it as well, but more out of interest because since I don't have the cash... I did not bid I looks well executed and clean... personally I like katars in all sizes and shapes, from little daggers to the long sword-like ones.

Yep... if cash conservation wasn't such a consideration at the moment, I would have made more of a play, though in the end I still wouldn't have been the winner. Congrats, Lew...

My personal preferences tend towards the older ones from the South, ca. 1700 or earlier... condition though, as has been mentioned, is commonly an issue with these.

The katar arrived and it exhibits a nice wootz pattern no etch was needed. Will try and take some more pics on Friday.

Here is a closeup of the blade you can see the wootz pattern in the fullers.
