Cheap granite stands from Costco.
These are really neat for different stands. I have a Moro armor suit on a stand that I was sure was going to fall over.
But these are 20" x 20" x 1.5" and weigh 60 pounds each. A 2" tube securely attached to a polished granite slab. Would also be good for spears, axes, anything heavy or large. The best part is that Costco has these on close-out at $19.95 each! Here is a Papua New Guinea canoe. Will call it a War Canoe to slide it in ethnographically. The canoe is 16'8" long from snout to tail. The Ethnographic King Charles Cavalier War Dogs are 32" long from snout to tail tip. I made a yoke for the canoe out of PVC pipe and a couple of 2x4's. |

Bill, i'll keep it in mind when i set up my next war canoe.
Thanks for another look into the Marsh Museum. I really am going to have to get out to see you sometime. I'll bet it would be a worthwhile field trip. BTW, i am a bit suprised that you let the furry fellas into your boat. Hope they don't leave any unpleasant suprises behind. |

The wheels of the stands are a nice touch. Bill, what's the fabric on the wall? Regards, Kai |

The wheels are very useful as the stands are quite heavy. The wall hanging is a Tapa bark cloth from Tonga. It is about 100 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapa_cloth Kind Regards, Bill |

Wow, they can work together as a gunnery team as you drive the bike.
That canoe is quite impressive, I have seen them before, but usually they are much less intricately carved. I like your approach to larger display items, as my small things tend to end up looking like clutter. Display is just as important as acquisition but tends to be an afterthought for me. Part of the problem is that when faced with the choice between buying something nice and buying a display stand, I put my money in the antique. With the price you mention at Costco I can get both. Think of all the savings Thanks, Josh |

Thanks for the kind words, Josh.
These granite stands are really great for swivel / rail cannons also. I am building a free standing kimono rack with two of these as base supports. Thinking about some free-standing sword racks. They are incredibly solid and with the nylon wheels and nylon feet on the other end, they won't scratch hardwood floors. Another idea is for tameshigiri supports. Tatami mats and bamboo. Being outside in the rain won't hurt them. Do suggest getting to Costco very soon. They are on close out. My wife, Anne, had the idea. She wants to put the canoe on higher stands for entertaining and put Hors d’œuvres in it. She is the strange one. I am normal |
