Some more pics after cleaning. The handle was black from rust...a bit of sanding revealed red rust underneath, which I cleaned off. Under the flash of the camera I see some rust left. The blade cleaned up nicely also, and the apparently blunt edge took a bite out of me.
Next step is making a scabbard, and my first question is how I may go about curving the wood plates. |

Have you tried to etch it? At least a window?
The blade configutration looks just too good not to be tempted.... |

No luck so far, Ariel
![]() I brushed on some lime juice with little effect. I can see what looks like swirls, but that might be on account of the moving lime juice. I'll try some stronger acid...if the swirls are indeed there, then it looks like a patter-weld, not wootz. |
