I think you will remember this thread on the old Forum, http://www.vikingsword.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000598.html and the great pictures posted by DAHenkel of parang pattani. What strikes me about the sword that is the original subject of this thread is the curious "curl" on the back edge and the flamboyant "clip" to the blade. Those features are why I thought it looked like a parang pattani. On going back to Dave's original post, I was struck by the similarity to his first sword, which is definitely in the style of a klewang as you note for the example above.

The hilt on the example at the top of this thread could be Sumatran, as you say, but some pattani hilts are very similar.

Excellent memory Ian, and I stand corrected....you may well be absolutely correct.
As you can tell, I love the blade shape and when Justin and I ran across it on Ebay we both stopped dead.....I wonder just how many of us bid on this piece? **grin**
