katana Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Kent Posts: 2,658	It seems unlikely to be a spear 'butt' the metal additions would mean that the spear head would have been quite heavy...to give the balance. I'm not saying that in a previous 'incarnation' it wasn't a spear butt ...but was ..perhaps later 'weighted' to give a hefty 'whack' as a fighting stick
