Lew,
my ignorance on this kind of weapons is embarrassing, but to me the scabbard seems new, a part the velvet that is obvious new, but also the mounting on the hilt. Anyway this is only a personal opinion , i'm waiting to see what other members, with far more knowledge, think Thank you very much |

Sorry but not beautiful ,scabbard completely(for sure), hilt partially (copper mountings-almost sure),and "it seems" the copper or whatever inscription on the blade is new. So tooo much expensive. I am sure most will agree that it has unesthetical, rough and ugly scabbard mountings, just because they are newly done cheap restoration. The velvet cover is even not fit tightly to the wood.

Yeah Erlikhan, exactly what i had in mind!!! just a question: on old and good yataghans the inlay is never in copper? always in silver or gold?
Thank you |

Flavio, the inlay can be brass . I have seen even nice brass koftgaris which were difficult to seperate from gold . Copper is too weak against corrosion for such an application i guess. In inlay, the steel is carved and brass is hammered into it carefully until there is a smooth surface with no height difference. But the inscription on this blade is a true inlay or something like "onlay"??
