Yes Ian, those little curved blade knives are the only ones I've seen used on hard flooring material.

I have not seen the lino that everybody seemed to have on their floors 70 or so years back, & before, for a long time, but there are similar hard materials now that have taken the place of lino, & I have seen that same sort of concave edge knife used to lay a kitchen floor.

When my friend mentioned the possibility of this chisel grind knife being used to lay hard flooring materials I raised the same question with him that your comment on curved blades raises.

He responded that in the laying of hard flooring materials more than one cutting tool was used, and that in combination with a steel straight edge, heavy chisel grind knives were the preferred tool for cutting a long straight edge.
