Koummya vs Khanjar: Name Game? Maybe Not

Ian,

I clicked on the link gp provided. As far as I can see, it doesn’t give the entire book of 185 pages. Clicking on Echantilon de lecture only gives 39 pages (which makes sense because echantillon means sample in French). This is the sample I downloaded for this post. Since there is a “Contact” tab, I sent another email asking about the possibility of an English version but because my first email asking about this went unanswered, I’m not holding my breath about this one.

Rob, you are correct. It is just a sample. I had scrolled to the end of the online link and found page 184, thinking that it was the whole book! But unfortunately it's just selections from throughout the book, as you note.

I contacted the author yesterday, bought the book and had no difficulties to get an answer. Mr. Wälty speaks French and German

Since you have no trouble getting a response from Mr Waelty, could you ask him if an English version of his book is a possibility? I could puzzle through a good bit of the French but it was a tough and slow go. Save for a few words, German would be out of the question.

Ok, I contacted Mr. Waelty and this is what he answered:

I'm actually looking into this issue of publishing the book in English, perhaps just as an online version. 95 percent of the lots depicted in the book belong to my collection. I would like to sell these en bloc (in no case as individual items). There are 140 lots.

The possibility of an online English version sounds promising…pending details. Perhaps you could ask Mr Waelty to notify the forum if it comes to pass. You may also want to tell Mr Waelty that, as a typographer in my former life, I probably have the skills necessary to help him with making an online book. After all, I have already taken the koummya and khanjar sections from his online sample and replaced the French with an English translation.
As far as selling his collection goes, maybe someone else on the forum has deep enough pockets to buy 140 items (which, given the seller’s interests, are certain to be top of the line). I asked my wife but she said that we can’t remortgage the house. Unreasonable I know, but there you have it.
