Hmm, I'm far from an expert, but I don't think I've ever seen a Syrian shamshir with a cross guard with that kind of raised cross and wide profile. Correct me if I'm wrong but more typically they are flatter and more slender:

That strikes me as more similar to guards found on Indian swords, e.g.:
