A Nondescript African Knife for Comments
Recently purchased from Artzi. Origin remains vague. I'm not well versed in African iron art, but I am attracted to the unusual. (We all have character flaws).
If anyone can throw light on any aspect of this knife, I'd be grateful for your opinions. Description provided: Four single edge blades mounted in crossed directions unto one wood handle. The blades are lightly engraved in a geometrical pattern, We do not know for sure what is the origin and the purpose of this knife. Most probably a ceremonial device. We have heard various suggestions as to the origin and attribution: Angola Chokwe, Congo Momvu, Nigeria Igbo and others. Blades 6 1/2 inches. Total length 10 1/2 inches. |

Hi Bob
This is a mystery to me, never seen anything like this before. Seems ceremonial to me but of rather low finish/quality. Normally cermonial objects are of better quality and finish. Regards Marc |
