 most examples I saw online have a band around the bottom of the handle but that introduces some problems: decoration in cern and matching scabbard metalwork... So just a dome on a circular plate better matches my abilities and provides a stepping stone towards a more forgiving scabbard mouth. Kind regards, Eric.
