Thanks guys. I've been going to shows for years and haven't been so lucky. If I did find pieces they were way overpriced. Guess I've been a good boy lately.
I can't help but notice, that the blade is similar in shape to that of a Flyssa. The swell is closer to the tip, yes, but there is a striking similarity. Interesting I think. Whats the deal with the "choil"? Its so interesting. What a minute. I just had an thought, ouch. The "choil" is very much like the part of the Keris called the Greneng. Interesting. Does anyone have pictures of the warriors that would carry the Kalasan?
It would be great if you could post them. I've ordered a couple books to study the weapons of the Indonesian archipelago. One is Traditional Weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago. Any other suggestions? The more I study the Kalasan the more I love it. Its just a fantastic sword. It feels so good in the hand. I noticed a small chip in the cutting edge in the center of the blade swell. I've been told that the chips usually mean the blade has incountered bone. If there is a "V" shaped nick it is another sword blade. Any ideas on the validity of this? It feels like it would have been a great cutting slashing and chopping weapon. I also found an Indonesian martial arts book, The Weapons and Fighting Arts of Indonesia , I hope will inlighten me as to the use of this weapon. I hope you all can help out a little more. Thanks for everything so far. |
