The hair ends in the hilt also scream rhino horn to me.
Also that silver filigree collar is unusual and looks thick. |

A nice, simple kanjar; I like the heavy crude silver work.
Maybe a bit of pure lanolin to make the horn less dried out looking. ![]() |

Thank you so very much for the information, guys.
I really appreciate it! This was an impulse buy and I didnīt pay much for it so I am happy that I didnīt do completely wrong.... Sometimes it can be a danger to sit in the front of the computer and just be a click away from a buy.... ![]() What do you guys think about the age.... Is it possible to say anything about that? Best, Stefan Sweden |

Please see http://khanjar.om/Types.html and scroll down to Ganobi and Hanshia daggers which are almost identical to this weapon Ganobi from Dhofar and Hanshia from the Sharqiyah but in the case of your weapon this looks to have Yemeni silver..and a leather scabbard in Yemeni style.

Age of weapon ? It is not so easy because the scabbard is new and how old is the blade?...is it a replacement?...and how to date the hilt? A guess based on the hilt is virtually impossible but it wouldn't surprise me if it was continued from an older weapon... so then how to date it? My view not always shared by others is that the low grade silver may have been placed post 1949
by Yemeni silver workers after the general exodus by Jewish craftsmen... thus perhaps the weapon was put together from parts about then... So how old is the weapon? I cannot say for sure. In its present form it may go back to 1949
Further if the hilt was taken from another weapon.... So without a doubt I have absolutely no idea!
