I have the feeling that it's 17th c. maybe late 17th.
Let see what the forum members will say...
Have you seen the hilt is made of two pieces of horn and not one like on the Moroccan nimcha...

That is a great question. Sadly, I do not have any older nimchas in my collection where I can examine the hilt, but I suspect that the fancier Algerian ones with tortoise shell hilts have scales and not a single piece of horn underneath. I have also never been to Malta yet, but the collection of older examples there should probably provide some clues as well.
