Hello Semar,
The pamor of this blade is not typically Bugis but it has slightly curved shape (dapur sepokal?), an original ganja iras (not missing), and a strong peksi. IMO it could originate from Sumbawa, see another kris from my collection with some similar features. Regards |

Well, I really and truly do not like doing this sort of thing from photos, but for once I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and play the guessing game.
Why? Because I've seen a pretty fair number of blades that look pretty much like this one, and they were all in South Sumatra dress, that is, Palembang and similar. So my guess is South Sumatra, second half 19th century. |

I'll jump on Alan's bandwagon. My first impression was also Sumatra.

Thanks, South Sumatra was actually my second guess, I was probably influenced by Semar's indication that this kris has a Buginese scabbard. See another kris from South Sumatra with an ganja iras blade.

That looks like the wavy fraternal twin to Semar's blade Jean.

Yes, and the variety of types of blades attributed to South Sumatra is amazing! To my knowledge the subject has not been studied in detail and some blades may be javanese. Another straight blade with ganja iras and probably originating from South Sumatra also?
