I was going to bid on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT ; nice old piece. Don't worry about the beak, the whole pummel is gone; could of been ivory at one time, but still went for a good buck.

I put a bid on that barung, but didn't want to pay more for something that wasn't fully intact. I'm surprised that it went for so much. Anyways, I'm with you that it couldn't have been ivory. If I had won that barung, I would have had a new pommel carved out of carabao horn to compliment the brass punto. Carabao horn would have been more appropriate than ivory in this case IMHO. |
