Ivory hilted Kris on ebay

Well, Tagalanao, years ago I paid around $250-300.00 on eBay (would have to go back to my records to find the correct amount). It was without scabbard and a 1920s blade. I tested the material and it is swaasa and silver bands with ivory. I have since made a scabbard for it, also with silver and swaasa bands.

The one you posted is really nice and it looks like there are swaasa and silver bands as well.

By the way, here are pictures of the scabbard and hilt just for fun

(I'll look for a closeup of one of the bands and post later):

IMO, the ivory hilted Barung's beak had broken off and had been reshaped. It looks off balance with a large plume (0.02).

I asked the seller about it but he sent me a picture that didn't show any signs of a break. Maybe it broke off a long time ago?
Anyway I also think it looks unbalanced no matter what.

wow! forgot all about this one, lol. junggayan barung hypnotized me. yup, it did go for a pretty penny for something that's not complete. as for an ivory pommel, i was checking cato's book and found this one on page 35 (plate 17). it look sharp with ivory cap, but like you said zel, with the brass punto (or is it?), i and i thinks karrbaw horn would look even sharper...

as for the ivory; it prolly broke in its early years and was worked on to blend with the rest...

I was going to bid on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT ; nice old piece. Don't worry about the beak, the whole pummel is gone; could of been ivory at one time, but still went for a good buck.

Nice shandigan blade. IMHO the pommel could not have been ivory. it wouldn't have been a match to the brass ferrule. Just my opinion though.

I think it is intact, Rick. Just one of the more minimal kakatua in terms of the beak. Must say it is a nice piece of ivory carving.
