Thanks for your comments Shakethetrees. I know you are right, form follows function. I just don't think there were any natives using bronze in Florida.

A friend of mine speculates that this relic may have traveled here the way many Roman coins have, via ballast stones.

There are many stories of such finds, but I haven't found a good article on the subject.... Yet!
