Salaams all..Please note ..that using hot vinegar is extremely dodgey... first it will take the paint off a door at 1000 yards !! and rip off rust like its not there... and if you slop it in your eyes ... well its a bit like battery acid. As already noted soapy water or perhaps coke-cola and continuous checking over short periods but please be advised on the agressive nature of hot vinegar!... I wouldn't normally comment much on cleaning methodology except to mention that it is the ethnographics we are after not the aesthetic or cosmetic technology...Though properly done it may be admired; you can't always put patina back.
