Very Unusual Saidi ??
This one despite it's missing rings and fabric intrigued me. In the end I was runner up on the bidding, simply not sure where it came from or having any
idea about it's true quality. So What is it? Thank You, Steve |

Hey mate,
I am glad you got it! was planning to bid but slept through it hehe. When I first saw it I thought its an Indian interpretation of the Saidi? there are photos somewhere of Mahrajas wearing Saidi khanjars so its all possible... |

Was watching this also. The hilt and blade looks to be Saidi, possibly mated with another scabbard, but the origin is a mystery to me,........but a very interesting mystery. The ball looks ivory but the rest appears as if it COULD be cast metal/silver. A very healthy result for the seller also in my opinion!

The mystery made it interesting to me as well, but the price went beyond my comfort level, so I let it go by. Maybe, we will find out enough about it to sate our curiosities.

To my eyes the metal is tarnished silver and the ball is ivory.

Salaams archer ~ Yep you are right its a Royal Omani Khanjar with what looks like a hard life ... but is just how I would expect it to look as its been to Salalah... many decades of the Salalah treatment... they come out looking bedraggled but this it is a great example. Rings dismantled, lost, re used on another khanjar or just gone !... down to the leather which is how they like them down there... but its a Royal job in amongst all that. Salalah. Lovely odd ball attached looks like Ivory...ya ! Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. |

Thank you all for your comments and knowledge. At least now I know why I was so conflicted. Perhaps another will come along in better shape. Thanks, Steve

hey I remember seeing this on ebay. I thought over it but decided not to bid because I thought it might be one of those fake absurd ones created by Indian dagger/repro makers.
