This time at home I did not have much time to see if the handle is wootz or not, but thanks for the idea, I'll look into that next time I am home.

Hi Rick, you are right, quite a number of these hilts are wootz.
Khorasan was a centre for production of very fine and dark wootz, so no wonder that many of these hilts are made of wootz.
