Yes, separate gonjo. The back of the cross-piece of the sheath is covered with horn but in front the cutting lines of the piece of horn are very straight so it was my first guess that it was framed with an other material and this guess was MOP. But now I am very sure that it was aluminium since at some places it is still present. The up from the mouth for example is covered with this metal and also the nails whereby the horn is fixed to the wood are from Al. And I think that I have seen something similar before.

BTW, I have cleaned the handle and polished the blade and think that I will etch the blade tomorrow. Here a pic of the cleaned handle.

Regards,

Detlef

Nice. Yeah looking again at the front of the scabbard, I agree that it might have had MOP surrounding the little section of horn.

Hello Detlef, My congratulations on this very nice addition to your collection. If by some chance you find you do not have enough space to display it please feel free to send it to me. I have not yet been able to add a traditional kris to my own collection as it seems that every time I find one that I really like there is always someone else out there that out bids me on it. Again, my congratulations to you on your newest addition.

Robert

Thank you Robert and be sure that you will find by time a very nice kris for your great Philippine collection!

Detlef

Have etched the blade this evening and it schows a similar lamination like the last one. Is this a very common lamination by philippine kris blades?

Regards,

Detlef

Thank you! Yes, I think there have been MOP or more probably a aluminium frame since there are still some pieces of this metal existent.
