Flamboyant dog head hilted dagger Identity sought

I seek info on this dagger please. Hilt looks like a hunting hound. Blade is very robust and of diamond cross section and is laminated. The whole thing is steel. Any thoughts on origin and age...

Thanks for your thoughts. Does the stag have any significance? Also the blade is peened to the hilt and the peen looks old so it has been in this form for a long time I think.

All I said was I had my doubts. I did not mention that this sword was put together to deceive etc I could not place it and so stayed away. It might well be a unique gem and that's fine by me.

Not sure how you will clean it but if you do a vinegar soak it will remove the old pamor and leave it shiny bright. Then you may want to restain it. If you want to pick away at it you'll be there...
