IVORY or What kind
I thought from the time I bought it that it was an ivory, I tried selling it on ebay and somone contacted me that this is rather a rare kind of clamshell. He refers me this link for further proof of what he said. Can anyone tell me what kind of clamshell it is and if it's not really an ivory handle? thank you and your reply is highly appreciated.

Hello, difficult to say by this small picture but by the dimension of this gunong handle I would guess that it is Tridacna clam shell often used for handles in Phi. and Indonesia. Many times moore sought-after then ivory. sajen |

Yes, larger size images would be helpful. I do believe though, that i have seen this gunong on eBay before. If i am not mistaken you have been trying to sell it for some time. If it is indeed that one i have in mind then it is indeed Tridacna which is from the shell of the giant clam. In many ways this material is as prized as ivory.

Oops.
We're not supposed to be talking about active auctions on eBay. Moderators? |
