Authentic moro sword?

Can you please help me to identify if this is an authentic piece?.

Hi Bart,

Yes, it looks to me as an authentic piece. Mindano if I'm not mistaken.

But there are much more knowledgeable members on the forum who can tell you a lot more about it.

From US bring backs, I'll guess it's southern Mindanao, maybe from the Cotabato area. The textiles on the sheath look interesting. They may have been added to "sell" the piece. If they are 100 years old, I think they add to the value. You see a lot of old swords come out of Southern Mindanao with receint textiles added.

Yes, I was also tending towards North Cota Bato area. Some more pics of the pommel would be nice.

I was wondering if this was a double post. I answered in the other one this way:

"I agree with you Kai. I'd say blade is authentic early 20th century and the rest is later. The head looks like aluminum, but not sure. The blade, scabbard, and style of hilt are Maguindanao, although the cloth looks Maranao (next door neighbors).

Nice start. Try the etching with some acid on the blade and see what you get. Good luck."
