Review and Shameless Plug
There is an exhibit at the Freer Sackler Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution that will be closing in a day or 3 .
The Exhibition title is: 'Encompassing the Globe; Portugal and the World in the 16th and 17th Centuries' . I had the good fortune to be able to attend this stunning and comprehensive presentation; for me it was an incredible experience... (Then again they don't let me out much. ) Museums from all over the world have contributed some of their finest ethnographic and Portuguese works of art to this show. If you are a collector or afficionado of any of the cultures touched by Portuguese explorers during this time I would highly recommend that you purchase the catalogue . It is a sumptuous feast for the eyes and mind . http://www.freersacklershop.com/engl.html Last edited by Rick; 12th September 2007 at 04:53 PM. |

Catalogue just arrived. what a heavy thing. Fantastic contents.
Very nice price, altogether $ 27,96. I think they failed to charge me for sipping costs As a "Porty", i am obviously pleased this exhibition took place, specially in such a graded place. I was also pleased to see a set of images in pages 232-233, belonging to the Portuguese codice kept at Casanatense library, which i posted in a recent thread in this Forum. fernando |

Very glad you gave us the heads up on this! Well worth the price! Thanks, Rick Is that Semar in your avatar? |

This exhibition is now taking place in the Museum of Antique Arts in Lisbon.
Some items are not present, but many others will join the event as, comprehended in a National treasure context, could not be ceded to prior exhibitions abroad. For those leaving around, this is an interesting visit; the museum own collection is also worth to be seen. If things run accordingly, i will be there on Sunday. Fernando It seems as a new catalogue is being issued. |
