Default Sewar, theme of mouth and handle?

Dear all,

I've been wondering what the theme on sewar fittings could be. In the hilts of these textbook examples I can see a birds head (eye and beak added for clarification) but the mouthpiece with the bulb on the scabbard remains a mystery. On the larger example it has some protrusions, the smaller one is smooth. Maybe some stylized kind of plant?

Kind regards,
Eric.
