This sale offers some highly sought-after examples, including a fine and very rare Mughal shamshir with enameled silver mounts, the pommel a fully-modeled camel’s head, from the well-known Robert Hales Collection, pictured in Islamic & Oriental Arms & Armour on page 229. We are also pleased to offer a fine Chinese Qing Dynasty powder horn, carved in relief and gilded, as well as a Qing Dynasty Officer’s Saber with handforged blade and finely pierced and engraved mounts. Discerning bidders will also be pleased to find fine Greek arms, including a superb pistol from Epirus, wrought entirely of silver, and engraved and nielloed overall. And for pirate and cannon collectors, we offer a rare lantaka of the Moro pirates who marauded the Sulu Sea.
