Pair of Napoleonic Eagle Bearers Halberds
Hi,
Just got these two Halberds from an auction and want to share it with you. Found out, that there are from the Napoleonic France. Napoleon gave his regiments Eagles as a signum on 5.12.1804. With an order from 18.2.1808 he decided to found the job of an eagle bearer and gave him two asistants for his safety. These two were called the second and third eagle bearer and get those halberds. At the halberd of the second there was a red flag, a white on these of the third. They also wear a pair of pistols. I dont know how much regiments the imperial Army have had and how much eagles or halberds, maybe one of you will know. all the best Dirk |

hi, only the first battalion had the Eagle. All other battalions of the same regiment just had the pennant. There could be up to 3 or 4 battalions to the regiment.michael

Hi Dirk, Looks like a great find. Interesting that without the spearpoint the form is similiar to boarding axes of the same period. CC

Hi,
i hope this is a good find, never seen one before in any museum in germany. Maybe there are more in France. @CC Yes the axe part is nearly the same like the boarding axe shown in Müler/Kölling Hiebwaffen and the lance points were used in the same form in later m64 french cavalary lances. But I still dont know how many regiments there were in the napoleon army all the best Dirk |
