Spiral there does not seem to be a single treatise. In any book on Islamic arms and armour you tend to get a couple of pages devoted to maces and axes but Ive never come across a work that discusses the evolution of the weapon over time for the different cultures and includes the major examples.

If one were produced I would be first on the order list. Judging from the pin interest pages Im not alone in being very interested in these types of weapons.
