Hi, anyone have pics or books reference on all the islamic axe form ? not only axe head but olso the form of the staff ...
thnak you |
Hi there,
If you mean Arabian axe forms, read up on the jerz from the Musandam region of Oman It's been discussed on the forum before (http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showpo...0&postcount=13) Otherwise there are the Indo-Persian axe forms eventually adopted by Ottomans as well. Emanuel |

I have been trying to get an exhibit from Musandam that is claimed to be a wootz head Jerz... and of the battle axe size about the size of a mans hand... much bigger than the usual quite small forms. I also understand that the curator at the Al Ain Museum has a treatise on the subject of Jers axes and based on quite a collection though as yet I have not seen it... Further axes can be seen on http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...hlight=wallace A brilliant thread! Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. |

Salaams spiral ~ Fixed now Sir ! Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. |
Spiral there does not seem to be a single treatise. In any book on Islamic arms and armour you tend to get a couple of pages devoted to maces and axes but Ive never come across a work that discusses the evolution of the weapon over time for the different cultures and includes the major examples.
If one were produced I would be first on the order list. Judging from the pin interest pages Im not alone in being very interested in these types of weapons. Horsa |
