A very long gun/musket I have. - Can you help Identify
Hello All,
I hope antique guns also fit this forum. This one has a very long barrel, a strange primitive lock, the frizzen seems to have some wear on it. The lock is almost stuck, I managed to move the hammer a few millimeteres using pliers, and then I stopped for fearing I might destroy this old piece. The copper fittings are new, the other ones seem older, I don't know what material they are made of. It was bought from a druze old man here in israel. I thought it's quite unique untill I saw a gun just like that in the antique market in paris, at 2007. the shop was just closing, so I didnt get to ask questions about it, all I got is a picture from a cellphone camera. I would like to identify this piece, perhaps even date it. and learn everthing can be learned about it. Thank you Yaniv |

Here is the one I saw in the market in paris:
All I could get is this picture of the lock, but the rest of the gun looked strikingly similar: |

These are vietnamese. They were still being used in the 1970's. They fired almost anything including used 7.62 bullets shoved down the barrell. They were using a paper cap system in the pan in the 60s-70s. If I get a chance I will take some pics of the ammunition and a full rifles.

Nice Vietnamese gun Yaniv. I have one too and I love it. Ward knows a lot about these. Here is a link to an old thread discussing these interesting guns.

Very nice gun. I have two, and bought number three, today. They are addictive! The reason you had trouble pulling the hammer back, is a very strong main spring. The two I have, take between 18, and 25 pounds of pull, to lock. That's why they have a cord attached to the hammer.
