Hi Willem,

It is neither it is an original photo, as I mentioned form my photo collection.
The format is the so called CDV (Carte de Visite).
At the bottom you can see the name of the photographer in The Hague.

I have a small collection of these kind of photo's mainly of officers with the Dutch Military Order of William which is a military historic interest of mine (www.mwo.6x.to). This prince had a double interest to me, the combination of interesting orders (not the aforementioned MWO) and the keris!

Judging from what I have seen on the websites this is a picture not published before.

Regards, Erik

Thanks Erik,

What kind of orders is he wearing ? can you tell by this picture ?
And the helmet reminds me a bit of old KNIL helments.

Where variations of the KNIL helmets also used ?

Best regards,
Willem

Hullo everybody,

I just had a thought! .... From somewhere in my dim past I remember that, while Lieutenant-General of Java, Raffles was so impressed by a young Raden Saleh that he sent him to India and recommended his superiors meet with the prince. From this meeting, Raden Saleh went on to the courts of Europe.
Hope this helps someone who is interested in chasing it up.

Best,
