Wanted Chinese sword

Hello All,
I have not posted in a long time, but I have nothing good to contribute either so...

Since looking at some Chinese swords at the Ashokan seminar a few years ago I have wanted to make some. I am looking for resonably good examples of older blades which I can study to get a sense of proportion and "feel".

Should anyone have a sword for sale do let me know.

Well it depends what you are interested in. I am always looking for ways to upgrade my collection. I have two niuweidao, a duan jian, a set of shuang jian, a yanmaodao and a couple of duan dao I would be willing to let go. The cheapest would be a duan dao with a good inserted edge blade, original though crude iron fittings of village manufacture, and no scabbard for $250 shipped. It would take me a bit to organize photos.

Sorry, no chang jian, but I have a seven star chang jian blade that I might be willing to let go to a good home for $600.

Look for the antiques.

The prices are good, and perhaps cheaper than what I have, especially for Europeans. However, Peter does not mark them sold very quickly, so what you see is not necessarily for sale still.

You might contact "Phillip" on this Forum (See membe's list for his email). Phillip Tom really knows these Chinese arms and armor. He has some wonderful pieces for sale sometimes.

So does Scott Rodel with Seven Stars, It is good to stay in touch with them.

Just a clarification: When I mentioned the seven star jian, I meant a jian with seven brass inserts not one from Seven Star Trading.

I can't seem to find a picture of the duan dao, but I found pictures of an oxtail dao with a huge blade that would be $350. I don't know if the fittings are original, but they are not recent reproductions. The handle has been re-lacquered to match the new "protection scabbard".

It is kind of big so I would have to charge for shipping, but I would only charge the actual costs.

Here is a Qianlong era yanmaodao. It is a lovely solid blade with very nice flowing water pattern welding and Qianlong style fullers but there is significant pitting at the tip that would make polishing it tricky. The price is $420 shipped in the lower 48. The pictures are of it being restored.

And with the scabbard before it was painted and the handle was wrapped.

The restoration was done well enough that the blade will not fall out of the scabbard when held upside down.
