With apologies, I have taken the liberty of giving one of these images a light massage, to make it easier to see the pendok motif.
I think this motif is an interpretation of Sekar Torong. I'm not sure I like the 50/50 approach to the sunggingan work, I do not know of this partial sunggingan work in historical sunggingan work, however, the work that has been done on this wrongko is nice neat work, but, for me, the overall effect is a bit too different to what I'm used to seeing. It is difficult to appraise a wrongko, & a wilah from photos, but the wrongko here looks to be competent work, as does the wilah. I think we could give this pamor as Lar Gangsir? Last edited by A. G. Thank you for your comments Alan.
Yes I also believe this 50/50 approach of sunggingan work is a modern approach. Personally for me it is quite interesting since we can appreciate the sunggingan work and the wood at the same time. The maker called this Pamor Lar Gangsir as well, however like Jagabuwana I would like to know the difference between Lar Gangsir and Ganggeng Kanyut. My understanding is that the Keris in post #1 is Lar Gangsir and cannot be called Ganggeng Kanyut, but the following Keris can be called either Lar Gangsir Agal (coarse) or Ganggeng Kanyut. On a side note: what type of flower is Sekar Torong? Thank you Last edited by JustYS; Today at 03:39 AM. Reason: Typo |

I can take some pics of these motifs from "Keris Jawa", but right now, no time.
I have no idea what a torong flower is. Funnel flower? I'll ask a couple of people & see if they know. |
