Well, Punal, that wasn't very considerate of you - just think about how much skill and compassion that distinguished veteran put into mounting those blades on the plague...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Are my eyes betraying me or is that a hexagonal brass ferrule? If so, this seems to be a replacement hilt done in Luzon (there would have been a brass end plate fastened by a pin where you can see that hole in the pommel). BTW, the twisted core Maranao kris is just gorgeous. I assume that's also swaasa inlay along the blade? Regards, Kai Last edited by kai; 16th July 2006 at 02:26 PM. Reason: pic added ;) |

kai, i really like the plaque, but my heart belongs to the moro blade, i don't have any idea what the other pieces are but my home gym is just perfect for them ![]() no, the new krises ferrule is not hexagonal, it is of brass construction similar to the other 18th c.kris with twist core. the pommel was carved from a carabao horn (octagonal). not sure if the inlays on the the bigger kris with twist core is swaasa? but it look like similar material to bands on the handle. should have it checked. thanks, arnel Last edited by punal; 17th July 2006 at 12:57 AM. |

A RARE TURKISH KRIS LOL!
![]() IT WOULD BE GOOD TO SAVE SOME OF THE PICTURES FROM THE AUCTION BEFORE THE KRIS WAS CLEANED TO SHOW THE NATURAL TARNISH ON THE SILVER ECT. UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE NOT VERY GOOD PICTURES BUT THAT MAY HAVE HELPED YOU WIN THE KRIS , IF THE PICTURES WERE AS GOOD AS YOURS THE BIDDING WOULD HAVE GONE HIGHER. A SUPER DATU GRADE KERIS IN EVERY WAY, IF IT COULD ONLY TALK. I WONDER WHERE THE SELLER GOT THE IDEA THAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY JAPANESE?. I SUPOSE THE JAPANESE MAY ALSO HAVE BROUGHT HOME SOME MORO KRIS AND OTHER WEAPONS DURING WW2 SO PERHAPS IT WAS IN JAPAN AT SOME TIME? SO IT MIGHT BE WORTH ASKING THE SELLER WHY THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE IDEA, HE DOSEN'T KNOW MUCH BUT MIGHT HAVE A LITTLE INFORMATION ON WHERE AND HOW HE GOT IT. ITS GOOD TO KEEP EVEN THE SMALL BITS OF INFORMATION ESPECIALLY ON A KRIS AS NICE AS THIS ONE. |

![]() BTW, the Madurese keris might be pretty decent as well - post some pics of it and let the keris specialists have a look... ![]() Quote:
No idea about that star dagger - Henk suggested a Moroccan or Filipino origin? ![]() Quote:

Let us know - AFAIK it doesn't look like tarnished silver!
Regards, Kai hi kai, the silver pommel was tarnished, and the blade was very rusty when i rec'd it thursday afternoon, can't stand rust so i cleaned it up with a very fine sanding paper, and final polished it w/ mother's metal polishing paste including the handle/pommel, i have not etch the blade yet, may be next week when i have time again. arnel |

I was going to ask you to post that one. Wonderful puppy. Looks like the hilt is made of silver and swaasa. Would you also show the top of the hilt please?
