Hi Guys Is My Armoury shut down. I was a member for many years and now my account has been deactivated. I have not been able to create a new account or get anyone from My Armoury to respond? Cheers Cathey |

Hi, I don't visit there very often but it is still active with some posts this month. I don't recall them changing their website address but just in case this is the link I usually use. http://myarmoury.com/talk/index.php |

Noticed that for some time. Shame, as there's a great thread on English rapier blade types that I wanted to add to.

... And now MyArmoury has been down for several weeks. It seemed to be a pretty active forum so it's surprising that it just disappeared like that. Does anyone have more information about what is going on over there? EDIT: Hm, seems like it might be a outdated software induced forum death: https://sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/t...moury-com-shut https://sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/t.../deal-myarmory |

And as another forum related datapoint, aside from unsuccessfully having been trying to register at myarmoury for the last two years, I've also tried several times during that same time frame to register with swordforum.com, only to be thwarted by the captcha you need to complete during registration, which does not load.

I have had similar issues with swordforum I can still log in but do not have permissions to reply, post or edit etc. Requests to admin unanswered & gave up trying after a year or so.

Just checked. There are a few 'edged weapons' items on it, postage & customs to UK is outrageous tho, so I've stopped using them. Those in the EU may have better rates. | |

Yeah, they still do some ethnographic arms as part of tribal art auctions, and there are still samurai auctions, but the weekly edged weapons auctions are gone. I wonder where all those sellers moved to now.

I just exchanged emails with Chad Anrow, Nathan's right hand guy. Nathan has been unresponsive even to him. Chad hopes someone will work it out, For the time being, I can suggest using archive.org for reading either board. SFI similarly, no responses via the board but you can try pinging Mark on Facebook (him direct or the SFI page), as he is quite done with my suggestions. Cheers GC |

While MyArmoury is still back up (but still not accepting new members), swordforum.com now seems to be gone.

The thought of all the accumulated information disappearing into the void troubles me. This is a drawback of the digital media that makes me question the value of the internet in its current configuration and storage capabilities.

I wonder if there would be some way to retrieve the information through something like the wayback machine. Although I think in this case it might be impossible since it appears they strip the query string (the bit after the "?") from the URL, which means they've only indexed the index page and not the individual boards or threads. Which makes me feel really tempted to write a small webcrawler to periodically index vikingsword in case it one day ceases to be. It would be really great if we had some sort of backup or mirror of all these sites somewhere, just in case. It kind of reminds me when the IMDB movie site callously decided to get rid of their message boards, which arguably contained more information and interesting discussions than the actual site itself. |
