Default Historic armour stolen from Louvre recovered

Hi All,
Nice set of Italian armour recovered after been stolen 40 years ago from The Louvre reported in todays news

I wouldn't know whether being more amazed with such spetacular items or with the following paragrapgh:


" There are 100,000 objects on France's database of global stolen artworks, with 900 added last year alone ".

If the current owners are found innocent of any theft or knowingly purchasing stolen goods do they get any compensation? Is there a time limit on stolen items? Insurance must have covered the loss decades ago.
Just interested to know how this works and I'm not condoning anything.
