Hello All,
I wanted to post the newest addition to my small family of gunongs; it's an older one (late 19th century maybe?) with a heck of a blade. The ferrule and guard looks like silver (could be wrong though) and has a little okir on it. The pommel is of the older shape. The 9 luk blade is stunningly laminated. I hope someday to be able to do an etch this well. The blade has an old collection tag which I will probably remove (not sure I like the adhesive on the blade), and the scabbard has remnants of a tag as well. I'm also including a couple "family photos" in roughly chronological order. Any thoughts on what wood the pommel and scabbard may be made of? Any idea what acid may have been used to etch this? It seems more dramatic than fruit acid or vinegar. Anyone thing I got the rough chronological order wrong? Any other thoughts? Comments? Thanks, Leif |

That is truly a very nice collection of gunongs you have there Leif. All nice looking pieces especially the three older ones shown on the left. That being said, I must agree with David that your newest addition has to be my favorite as well. Addictive aren't they.

Circuit Board Etchant would be my guess.
Available at Radio Shack if you can still find one that's open. Nice knife. |
