Default Help Translating a Persian Shamshir Hilt Strap

I am hoping one of our forumites can translate this hilt strap(top and bottom) that is gold koftgari over steel. I am assuming since it is on a Persian shamshir that it is Farsi in Arabic script.

Thanks for any help!!!

Hello Charles,
I cannot be of any help on this other than to say that it is a standing policy to show a photo of the entire weapon in question to receive help on translations. Looking forward to seeing the photo and to hearing the translation.

Best,
Robert

Apologies Robert. I was unaware of that policy. Here are some basic pics of the entire piece.

I too am unaware of this "policy" but I am sure glad you posted the extra images.

The blade and fittings are in an exceptional state of preservation.

Is the leather work a new restoration or old but in an exceptional state of preservation....enough of my questions, back to yours!!!

I thought it used to be in a sticky thread at the top of the forum. But I don't see it now.

Lovely sword! Will be interesting to learn what it says.

Thanks guys. The leather has, indeed, been restored. All else is original to the sword.

Hello Charles, and thank you for the photos of your beautiful sword. I'm sure that someone will be by (hopefully shortly) to help with the translation.

Best,
Robert

Yeah, it is. But it serves us all to see the context of the piece when needing translations.

If this is the one I'm thinking of, the blade is more beautiful in person: the wootz really pops out more than the picture shows.

That is a beautiful shamshir, the test on the hilt is Arabic, and worn off making it harder to read. Maybe DOM can do his magic.

Amazing :-)) congratulations Charles!

I cannot read it, sorry.. Did manage to make sense of some words but its very fragmented and I cannot be sure that what I read is correct.

Is the blade Kirk nurduban?? how long is the blade alone?

Many thanks for your kind comments, though I never intended to post pics of the entire sword.

The wootz blade is, indeed, the ladder pattern, kirk nurduban, and the pattern is very clear on both sides.

The blade is rather large at 35 inches across the curvature.

I am still hoping for some input on the hilt strap.
